Always wanted to buy a good quality electric toothbrush but it's too expensive? David Williams is pushing for better dental hygiene education with his high-quality, affordable electric toothbrush. Read below to find out how his personal dental experiences informed his business idea. 

1. What was your Eureka moment that made you decide, I need to start my own dental product line?

Crystal Crown Care will be 3 years old next year. It all started with my personal experience in the dental industry during lockdown where I needed urgent care, but it was difficult to get due to the pandemic. My dentist mentioned that having the right dental hygiene and tools could have helped me avoid things. From this, I purchased a popular branded expensive electric toothbrush which broke and I was forced to dispose of it after 3 months. This was my eureka moment. 

I realised education around dental hygiene and the important role of quality dental tools, like a good toothbrush, contribute towards good dental hygiene. After speaking to family and friends I discovered most people only use a manual toothbrush and this is mostly due to the lack of knowledge and the cost of electric toothbrushes. A high-functioning electric toothbrush starts from £150 and that’s without the add-ons, I wanted to provide quality for less. 

2. How will you say your journey as a black business owner has been so far?

As a business owner, it has been challenging to start a business from scratch in a post-pandemic world. One of the key benefits of being a black business owner is the support from the community. My journey continues to be that of a journey of learning.

3. What was your mission at the start of your company?

My thought was simple, to convert manual toothbrush users to electric toothbrush users providing them with a quality product.

4. What would you say differentiates you from other dental hygiene brands?

My personal combination of design, sophisticated functionality, and accessories. 

5. What is unique about your brand?

Superior battery life 

6. How would you describe your company’s success so far?

We've had some great growth plans, increased sales by 20% year on year, and are now expanding our range of colours.

7. What is the most important thing to you as a business owner and why?
